Fuel Economy Tip - Keep the Car Off While Tailgating
September 16th, 2006 | by Brian Carr |Today’s tip will help you save a bit of gas and money while you’re out tailgating at your favorite team’s games.
Keep your vehicle turned off while you’re tailgating.
Now that the college and pro football seasons are under way, many of us are going to get to our favorite team’s games a little bit early, grill out, have some drinks and relax before going in to the stadium.
Make sure when you do so you keep your car turned off - the more you let your car sit in idle the more gas you waste and the worse your fuel economy becomes.
So, don’t leave the car running so you can listen to music, have an air conditioned space, etc. and just kep the car turned off, or let it run on the battery to listen to music/pre-game radio; just make sure you don’t drain the battery too much.

That’ll teach me to just read the headline - my first thought was, “How can I stay right on the guy’s bumper if my engine is off?”

Sorry! I was trying to think of a better word than tailgating (meaning hanging out in parking lot before a game) because I wanted to avoid confusion. Sorry about that.
