Most Fuel Efficient Vehicles of 2006 - Chevrolet

In continuing the “Most Fuel Efficient Vehicles of 2006″ series, today I will cover Chevrolet’s 2006 vehicles and look at what the company has in store for 2007 and beyond.

Unlike Ford, Chevy did not have hybrid vehicle in its 2006 fleet, although this didn’t stop Chevy from having many of its vehicles achieve very good gas mileage.  Even despite not having a hybrid, Chevy was able to continue to distance itself from Ford as the dominant American car manufacturer.

Here are Chevy’s Top 5 Most Fuel Efficient Models for 2006:

  1. Aveo (Manual Transmission) - 26 City / 35 Highway - Compact Car
  2. Cobalt (Manual Transmission) - 25 City / 34 Highway - Compact Car
  3. Malibu (Automatic Transmission) - 24 City / 32 Highway - Mid-size Sedan
  4. Optra (Manual Transmission) - 23 City / 30 Highway - Mid-size Sedan
  5. HHR (Manual Transmission) - 23 City / 30 Highway - Compact SUV

Despite not having a hybrid vehicle for 2006, it appears Chevy is ready to make a splash in 2007 with the world’s first heavy duty hybrid.  The Silverado Hybrid gets roughly 18 mpg in the city and 21 on the highway, up from 14 and 19 for the regular Silverado.  Even though the gas mileage isn’t that improved, every little bit counts!

In addition to releasing the Silverado Hybrid, Chevy also plans on “leasing” 100 Equinox Fuel Cell vehicles, which will give Chevy an opportunity to test hydrogen vehicles in real world situations.

It looks like Chevy is ready to make a valid effort to get both hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles out on the roads.
