Most Fuel Efficient SUVs of 2006
November 1st, 2006 | by Brian Carr |When most people think of Sport Utility Vehicles, they think of massive, gas guzzling vehicles. While this may hold true for many SUVs, it certainly isn’t the case for all of them.
Thanks to this summer’s meteoric rise in gas prices, as well as lagging sales, many automotive manufactures have started making SUVs that can get better gas mileage - even going so far as to create hybrid SUVs.
Here are the Top 5 Most Fuel Efficient SUVs of 2006:
- Ford Escape Hybrid - 36 MPG City / 31 MPG Highway
- Mercury Mariner Hybrid - 31 MPG City / 29 MPG Highway
- Toyota Highlander Hybrid - 33 MPG City / 28 MPG Highway
- Mazda Tribute - 24 MPG City / 29 MPG Highway
- Honda CR-V - 23 MPG City / 29 MPG Highway
While nobody is going to confuse the SUVs listed above with a Toyota Prius or a Honda Insight, these SUVs get better gas mileage than many sedans and certainly get much better gas mileage than larger SUVs like the Chevy Suburban or Cadillac Escalade.
And since every little bit counts, these SUVs are going a long way towards helping us reduce the amount of gas we waste.
