In an attempt to try and keep American consumers’ dollars from funding terrorist groups and countries, Terror Free Oil Initiative, a Florida based company, has decided to open “Terror Free” gasoline stations across the United States.
According to an article published by the Associated Press, the group aims to sell gasoline that is created from oil that originates from countries that do not support terrorism as well as from companies that do not do business in said countries. Most of the gasoline sold at the “Terror Free” gasoline stations will come from United States or Canadian oil.
While this concept is certainly very interesting, putting the idea into practice and making sure no money ends up going back to countries that support terror might be harder to pull off than initially planned. Despite the fact most of the oil will come from the United States or Canada, some of the oil will still come from the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil from all over the world is traded on the exchange, so there’s really no way to tell where the oil originates.
In looking at this concept, it certainly seems to me that the basic premise behind all of this is that all of the Middle Eastern countries either support terrorism or go so far as to use oil money to help fund terrorist activities. Ultimately, that seems like a pretty far fetched idea.
