Thieves Steal 1,200 Gallons of Gas
March 25th, 2007 | by Brian Carr |In what’s sure to become more and more common place as gas prices climb higher, an unidentified number of thieves were able to steal over 1,200 gallons of gasoline from a station in Olympia, Washington.
According to an article published on WTOV, the thieves were able to steal the gasoline by breaking into the gas station’s underground storage tanks. Where the thieves were going to be able to store the gasoline remains a mystery.
Most instances of gas theft occur when people are able to fill up their tank and speed out of the station before paying. The penalties for that sort of offense range from loss of license and a fine to possible jail time.
I think it’s safe to say that if you up the booty to 1,200 gallons, you’re probably going to be looking at getting locked away for a significantly longer amount of time.
While this may seem funny and you may be saying to yourself, “it’s about time someone stuck it to these gas stations and oil companies,” in a not so round about way, you’re going to end up paying for this.
If these sorts of heists become common place, gas prices are going to increase due to the fact these stations are going to want to recoup their losses and they’re going to pass on the cost of adding extra security.
