Gas Prices Rise - Let the Conspiracy Continue
November 8th, 2006 | by Brian Carr |In news that is sure to add flames to the conspiracy theorists’ fire, oil and gasoline prices rose today - the day after Republicans lost the House and, more than likely, the Senate.
Thanks to reports of falling gasoline and diesel fuel inventories, the price for a barrel of crude oil rose $.90 to close the day at $59.83. In turn, the national average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline rose by $.02 to $2.23.
And, in case you’ve been living under a rock, the “conspiracy” I am referencing is the idea that the Republican Party manipulated gas prices so they would shoot up during the summer (to help big oil - a well known supporter of the Republicans) and then quickly fall leading into the elections, thus helping the Republicans save seats in Congress.
So, now that the election has taken place, it’s obvious that one of two things happened:
- The conspiracy backfired because the Republicans lost control of Congress
- The conspiracy was just that - a far reaching, untruthful conspiracy.
My guess is the latter, but you can decide for yourself.

Wow! Talk about misinformation! OIL COMPANIES? IF THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY OR LETS JUST CALL IT FUNNY BUSINESS GOING ON THEN WHY HAVE THE BIG THREE OIL COMPANIES IN AMERICA MADE MORE MONEY IN THE LAST 6 YEARS THAN A TEAM OF ACCOUNTANTS STRAIGHT OUT OF A WARREN BUFFET TAX AUDIT COULD COUNT IN 6 YEARS? I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE US AUTO COMPANIES COULD IMPROVE THE FUEL ECONOMY OF EVERY SINGLE VEHICLE THAT THEY MAKE BY 30% AND DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF CO2 AND OTHER POLLUTANTS BY THE SAME BY THE END OF THE WEEK! JUST ASK THEM TO LET YOU INTO THEIR RESEARCH FACILTY AND INTO THAT BIG VAULT OF GOODIES. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HEAR THE EXCUSE THAT WOULD COME OUT OF THE CEO’S FOR HOLDING BACK THE TECHNOLOGY THAT WOULD NOT ONLY HELP THE OIL CRISIS IN THIS COUNTRY BUT COMPLETELY SOLVE THE SO CALLED HIGH DEMAND LOW INVENTORY CRISIS. IN 2008 MINI COOPER WILL RELEASE THE CLUBMAN AND THAT WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF POOR FUEL ECONOMY VEHICLES. THEY ALMOST DON’T EXIST IN EUROPE AND NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES IF YOU USE US STANDARDS. ITS REALLY FUNNY TO THINK THAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WHICH IN NUMBERS THAT DEAL WITH THIS TOPIC WOULD BE ABOUT 93% THINKS THAT 20 MILES PER GALLON IS GREAT FUEL ECONOMY. I JUST HOPE JUSTICE IS IN THE ROOM WHEN IT COMES OUT. IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS, ESPECIALLY IF WE GET SOME SEATS IN CONGRESS AND THE SENATE CHANGED OUT. PEOPLE THAT CAN’T BE BRIBED! THERE MAY JUST BE ONE OR TWO LEFT IN THE WORLD.
LET’S JUST WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
