Many People Expecting $4 Gas

by Brian Carr on January 14, 2007

Remember last summer’s record high gas prices?  Apparently they are a not too distant and not too fond memory for many of us, especially considering nearly half of us expect prices to get even worse in 2007.

According to a recent poll on Daily Fuel Economy Tip, 43% of people believe that gas prices will top $4 at some point during 2007.  Of the 86 people who responded, 37 people believe gas would hit $4, 45 people (52%) believe gas won’t get that high and four people (5%) weren’t sure.

It appears that a large percentage of people feel that the recent 15% drop in the price of oil to start the new year will be short lived and at some point prices will eclipse the record high of $78 set in August of 2006.

And considering the price of oil is sitting on 20 month lows while gasoline is roughly 40 cents higher than it was 20 months ago, it does sort of look like we’ll be on track to hit $4 once the summer driving season rolls around.
