I am 78 years old and still think myself a good driver whithout any accidents (while driving) I have held my licence for 55 years. Saying that I would think that anyone who wants to drive over the age of 80 would agree it would would be in everyones interest to take a retest even if it is for there own peace of mind and should be free of charge as most pensioners are targeted by the insurance companies (and can’t afford another charge) because of age (Ihave just been quoted £3400 for a 1595cc one year KiaCeed car) If we did take the retest would the insurance companies acknowledge it and price accordingly, I might be sceptical but I doubt it.

I think that people should be retested on their driving skills every 10 years. Maybe increase it for people over a certain age. So say once you reach 50 you get retested every 4 years. My brother drives a Alfa Giulietta and he also agrees with me. He is forever going on about his mother who drives soooo slowly!!

Good article Brian. The age for driving should be specific and also retesting should be required. This will also help people know there driving habits and are they enough to drive properly or safely. And as per age is concerned for teens or young drivers there should be certain age limit from where they should take driving seriously and should not involve themselves in accidents because many young drivers or teens don’t have a proper driving skills still and so the driving limit for young driving or teens should be increased. carinsurancetemporary.co.uk

As with age a lot of things fail, resiting a test should happen, not just for seniors but after any motoring conviction,

Letting people loose behind the wheel after the initial test is great, but in life many circumstances change, as we get older our eyes start to fail, do our senses also start to fail ?

Where would the money come from and the staff to mann this if it were ever to happen
